History ~~~

Program Rakan Muda telah dilancarkan di Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur pada 29 Oktober 1994. Program ini telah diiktiraf sebagai sebuah program pembangunan sosial dengan tumpuan untuk melahirkan generasi pewaris yang sempurna bertanggungjawab, aktif, berkeyakinan dan berupaya mengawal diri serta menghapuskan amalan-amalan negatif seperti melepak dan sebagainya.

Pendekatan pelaksanaan Program Rakan Muda adalah berdasarkan kepada sembilan Gaya Hidup yang digubal bagi memenuhi citarasa golongan muda. Sembilan Gaya Hidup tersebut ialah Rakan Rekreasi, Rakan Wajadiri, Rakan Sukan, Rakan Kecergasan, Rakan Wirausaha dan Wiramahir, Rakan Masyarakat, Rakan Cinta Alam, Rakan Seni Budaya dan Rakan Kecergasan.

Sejak Rakan Muda dilancarkan sehingga tahun 2006, seramai 5.35 juta remaja telah menyertai Program Rakan Muda melalui 267,489 aktiviti. Program ini telah mendapat sambutan yang mengalakkan daripada remaja kerana ia berkonsepkan “Dari Remaja Untuk Remaja”. Berdasarkan sambutan yang mengalakkan, Mesyuarat Jemaah Menteri pada 9 Mei 2007 telah bersetuju untuk meneruskan program ini di bawah Program Rakan Muda dengan pendekatan baru bersesuaian dengan keadaan dan keperluan semasa di mana golongan remaja lebih terdedah kepada cabaran globalisasi dan arus pembangunan negara yang pesat.

The Rakan Muda programme is based on the transformation of an implementation philosophy which had a focus on the individual, to one which has a focus on the community. This philosophy is in line with the Community Youth Development approach.

The emphasis in the Community Youth Development approach is on the total involvement of youth and local communities. Youth will work together with local communities to carry out various activities including those in the economic, social, and cultural arenas, which would be accomplished through Gaya Hidup Rakan Muda or the Rakan Muda Lifestyle. This involvement will raise the role of youth in society and bring about overall development to communities. Indirectly, this transformation will also bring youth into the current of national development. The core of this movement involves elements of planning, execution, and assessment performed by those who follow the Rakan Muda Lifestyle, based on their preferences and the needs of their communities.

Within this core, the main emphasis of the programme is to increase the capabilities of those who live the Rakan Muda Lifestyle, i.e. to equip them with various types of knowledge, skills, expertise, and positive attitudes.The Rakan Muda Lifestyle will emphasise the self-development of youth in areas such as patriotism, volunteerism, culture, moral education, and 3K development, in line with human capital development as emphasised by our national leadership.

INTRODUCTION ~

CONCEPT ~
Emphases on youth self-development ,system of delivery, continuous execution of the programme, smart sharing and community involvement as a whole via an organized and more effective management system as well as the planning and implementation of interesting activities.

VISION ~
Toward the creation of outstanding youth of excellence who can contribute to the development of community and nation and who also possess high personal qualities and the ability to compete.MISSION ~ To raise youth who are disciplined, responsible, caring, skilled, dynamic, proactive, energetic with leadership qualities, who are skilled, independent, cultured, patriotic, always of service and striving toward lofty goals, and who are positive thinking.OBJECTIVE· To establish communities which interact with sub-communities and individuals through various Rakan Muda Lifestyle activities.· To foster friendship, caring and healthy socializing amongst youth through their involvement in the Rakan Muda Lifestyle programmes which are sponsores from time to time· To provide various benefits, opportunities and facilities to promote inner strength, skills and self-esteem in youth.· To bring about the characteristics of being caring, skilled and dynamic as the core of human capital development in youth, with the spirit of “We Will Excel ”.· The development of self-image in youth through the internalization of positive values which build character, discipline, mutual respect, loyalty, cooperation, unity and spirit of patriotism.· To increase networking in cooperation with the agencies which have specializations related to the various Rakan Muda Lifestyle programmers .
